Sand sticks to your dog most when their coat is soaking wet. The best method is to remove as much moisture as possible with an absorbent dog beach towel before getting into the car.
The Quick Beach Clean-Up Method
1. Let Your Dog Shake
Before drying, let your dog have a good shake while you are still near the beach. This removes loose water and sand from the coat.
2. Dry With a Dog Beach Towel
Use a large, absorbent dog towel to press and squeeze the moisture from your dog’s coat.
Avoid aggressively rubbing the sand into their fur. Instead, work from the back down towards the stomach, legs and paws.
As the coat becomes drier, most of the sand will loosen and fall away.
3. Check the Paws
Gently wipe between your dog’s toes and around the paw pads, where wet sand often collects.
Use a clean section of the towel or rinse the paws with fresh water if the sand is difficult to remove.
4. Rinse Only When Needed
If your dog is covered in saltwater or fine, sticky sand, give them a quick rinse with fresh water.
Then dry them again before allowing them into the car.
